Privacy policy

Last updated: 8 October 2026

This policy explains what personal information the Blindwells Tenants & Residents Association (“we”, “the association”) collects through this website, why, and what your rights are. We are run by volunteer residents and we keep things simple: we collect very little.

Who is responsible for your information

The Blindwells Tenants & Residents Association is responsible for the personal information collected through this site. To contact us about your information, use our contact form.

What we collect, and why

When you use the contact form

We collect the name, email address and message that you type into the form. We use them only to read and reply to your message, and to pass your concern to the right people if you ask us to. The form does not save your message on the website. It is sent as an email to a mailbox used by the committee, and it stays there until we delete it.

Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering people who contact the association. If you do not want us to hold your message, ask us and we will delete it.

When you just visit the site

We do not use advertising, tracking or analytics cookies, and the site does not ask visitors to log in or leave comments. Like any website, our hosting provider’s server automatically records technical information such as your IP address, the pages requested and the time. This is used for security and to keep the site working, and is not used to identify you.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your information or use it for marketing. Messages sent through the contact form are handled by our email provider (Google, for the committee’s Gmail mailbox) and the website is run by a hosting provider. They process information on our behalf. We will only share your message with someone else, such as the council or the developer, if you ask us to or if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep messages only for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry and any follow-up, and then delete them. We aim to review and clear old messages at least once a year.

Other websites

This site links to other websites, including Facebook, the developer’s site and East Lothian Council. They have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for how they handle your information.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask us to tell you what information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, and to object to or restrict how we use it. To use any of these rights, contact us through the contact form. We will reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Changes to this policy

If we start collecting more information, for example for a membership list or a mailing list, we will update this policy before we do so and show the new date at the top of this page.
